Out of Darkness

Before
After

At last, at long last our new lighting system is up and going! It needs some tweeking, a few lamps aren't working properly but it really does transform the Church.
Gone are the ghastly factory lights and the nasty blandness, the colour change is real not a camera problem. We have managed to focus light on the angel corbels of the roof the altar and the stations.

Before the before
This is a black and white photograph of the Church 2 years ago, before we began the restoration work.

Father

The carpet on the Sanctuary needs to moved slightly to the right.

Apart from that, it looks absolutely terrific. Thanks be to God!

"Out of darkness?" Then father, we must sing 591 in the hymn books on Sunday.... I don't know why we hadn't thought of singing it before...

Very impressive. I look forward to seeing it all on my next visit.

Inde,
The High Altar was removed and broken up in 1969 and its stone fronting put under the tabernacle.

There is only one ALTAR, which is now free-standing, yes you are it would be better if were restored to its original position but the possibility of my diocese, or any other in the UK, permitting that in the next few years is zero.

Thanks for that, Father. I have always wondered why I have virtually never seen the original high altars used (when they survive), only freestanding altars set up in front.

So bishops absolutely refuse to allow it. May more *truly* liberal bishops come in the future!
