I found this on Inn at the End of the World, it is a nice little video about the new Solemnes Congregation house in Oklahoma.
Whenever I watch things like this I wonder whether the whole Church just needs to stop, quieten down and pray. So much of what we do is of little importance, all that matters is God and being captured in the gaze of God.
The life of a monk is simply that: Contemplating God. Meditatively gazing on God.

I went to see the film "Into Great Silence". Undoubtedly the appeal of monastic life is undeniable.
I love going to my local monastery of New Norcia here in Western Australia. I love taking part in the singing of The Divine Office. On my own I say it, at home. But it is not the same as being part of a Community which has it as the general outline of daily life. Here, the ABC has just done a copy of the English production of The Monastery. They had to be different and go to a Convent. Notwithstanding that, the production was great. The final episode was shown last Sunday and even the secular Gardening program could not help itself in showing Sister Mechtilde and her garden where she produces all the vegetables and eggs and poultry which is consumed by the community.
Clearly, that particular Community is very much alive and well with a growing number of postulants and a community in excess of thirty.
