The basic silliness of such a presentation (which is reminiscent of the bishops' village-people routine in Rio) rings so hollow! It doesn't speak to people in a 'valley of tears'. That's why I get irritated at the Holy Father when he says Christians should walk around with grins plastered on their faces. Don't we have a duty to life itself to take it a little more seriously? (Let alone God Almighty!)

I think I remember Pope John Paul saying that no music should be performed in churches except as part of the liturgy. You could not, therefore, have a performance in a church of, say, Monteverdi's Vespers as a concert. Of course this directive has never been observed. Maybe it should be!
As offensive as this is (I am giving them the benefit of the doubt that the songs they sang were no worse than any others that might have been sung in Mass these days by singers from the front of the Church instead of in the choir loft), I think I am more shocked by seeing a female altar boy in cassock and surplice.

At least they dont subject their congregation to "hymns" such as "Fancy walking on the water Lord, what next whatever next, what next whatever next, "Lord of the Dance", "Peace perfect peace" (which induces thoughts of the opposite) and "My God Loves Me" the tune for which originates from a French song most unsuitable for a church, and all the other dirges that were forced on us from the "20th Century folk hymnal" in my youth and probably still are aired in many UK parishes.
It seems pointless attacking Austrians. They have been demonised since the Anschluss and the collapse of the Church there runs in parallel to a loss of nationalist identity. It might be tempting to offer them schism and by so doing get rid of their Cardinal.
