To try and inspire people to come we have been selling candles for people to dedicate intentions.
40 Hours is our way of contributing to our diocesan Jubilee celebrations, the legacy of our previous bishop, at the Amex Stadium next week. Most parishes in our diocese have, I understand, cancelled their Sunday Masses, in conscience I just couldn't bring myself to do that, so next Sunday our Mass schedule will be 9am Traditional Latin (Low Mass) and 10.30 our New Rite Missa Cantata, then off to the Amex to Concelebrate Mass with our new Bishop, Richard. I have been thinking of assist in choro, which I'd much prefer, except I don't want to sit surrounded by a load of small boy and girl altar servers.
If you are in Brighton come and pray with my parish and Our Lord between 8am Monday and Midnight on Tuesday. There is something quite beautiful about praying in the small hours with the young men of our parish.

Liturgical envy. Where I am in exile, there has not been a forty-hours devotion for over 40 years. I hope people take advantage of all the opportunities for grace in your parish, Father Blake.
Will the High Mass for Saints Peter and Paul be Missa Coram Sanctissimo? I'm not an expert on the legalities of it (even during a 40 hour devotion) and I understand the rubrics are a nightmare, but it would be interesting to experience.
No, I am afraid Ss Peter & Paul will be celebrated as an external Solemnity on Sunday, low Mass, our English Bishops transferred it. I would be confused by a Solemn Mass on Ss P&P that was also a Votive of Corpus Christi, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.
Oh so no longer a High Mass on Monday? I'm glad I found out, that would have been a very red-faced train back from Brighton! I might still try and pop down for the devotion, will we have to knock on the presbytery door to enter the Church outside of Mass time?
No the Church is open for Forty Hours.
Just for the record there was a "Day with Mary" at Arundel Cathedral to-day Saturday 27th June. Bishop Richard Moth celebrated Mass and gave a homily Our Lady. It was an excellent opportunity to get to see our new Bishop in action for those who for whatever reason will not be going to AMEX on 5th July. We were very impressed and encouraged that something good is happening in our Diocese.
Father I am very impressed and jealous of your parishioners for having such a great pastor. Ad multos annos.
