Bishop Egan has announced Portsmouth diocese are to undergo a major restructuring based on creating Vicariates, for Vocation, Education and Evangelisation.
The "Head of Department for Pastoral Formation, Director of Music and Liturgy, Advisor for Stewardship and Collaborative Ministry, Advisor for Youth Ministry and Advisor for Catechesis and Adult Formation will be made redundant."
The Director of Music is of course Mr Paul Inwood.

What I do not understand is why Parish collections for Cabrini Children's Society are still allowed in the Diocese of Portsmouth.

An interesting and potentially welcome developments in Portsmouth. I read the document and it sounds like Bishop Egan is planning great things in his diocese. We must remember however that 6 or so people will lose their jobs as a result. As we pray for Bishop Egan and his future plans we must also pray that those affect can find good and honest work in the future too.

Indeed - though the one of their number who has used his office to further his outside business interests will probably be OK. And I suspect from his outrageous abuse of his position last year to promote opposition to the new translation that he's long seen this coming, and cultivated alternative arrangements. Sadly, his colleagues are the ones who will suffer from the financial car-crash that was the result of the empire building that's been going on there for so long.

Bishop Egan's deliberations were no doubt aided by the helpful habits of dissenters within his diocese, who have been making their views and unorthodox actions known before his appointment, through the pages of "Portsmouth People" and (sadly in the case of clergy) on the "Pray Tell" website. Let's hope that those who have publicly dissented from the New Mass translation are never in a position to wreckovate the liturgy, and that costcutting precludes re-ordering of inoffensive or historical altars.

I don't know enough of the context to weigh in reliably, but it is clear that people believe that these job losses were just, and we should always be pleased when justice prevails.
If they want more vocations, they should bring more tradition back. Traditional seminaries like the FSSP are OVERFLOWING with applicants.
Anyway, this is very good news to hear.

I hear that universities are now being encouraged to take the over-60s. Perhaps Paul Inwood could now retrain as a musician.
Plenty of Catholic charities out there! The Little Way Association for example. I too wonder why Cabrini is still collected for in Southwark!
