The West Grinstead Monday Group

Every six weeks or so a few of us meet for a few hours of study prayer and being together, it is good. Normally about dozen or so priest turn up to the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, West Grinstead, where Mass has been celebrated, since the reformation, it is riddle with priest holes. It is run by Father David Goddard, a married former Anglican. Sue, his wife and Kate their daughter, are a splendid advert for married clergy, there is son too Matthew, who is studying for the priesthood in the States with the Society of Saint Peter.

I read Cardinal Murphy O'Connor's lecture, which he gave in Melbourne, in it he suggests young people are looking for God, for community, for the poor.
The truth is I think most of us tended to disagree with our former bishop.

I think we can talk a lot about what people want, the truth is "gold and silver have we none" all we have is Christ, maybe we have to learn that type of humility and realise that He is all we have to offer and He alone can sought things out.

The picture shows some of us saying the rosary.

Precisely. Young people, and perhaps even old people, are hungry for spirituality and are seldom offered it. They are not taught about prayer and the riches pf Christian mysticism with the result that they fall into the arms of gurus and shamans and various other New Age teachers.

I think it is Fr. Biggerstaff.
Bruno Witchells is a deacon and will be ordained next year sometime, I think, another impressive young priest for our diocese.
