All Fur Coat and No ...

A cartoon by Christian Adams
The Prime Minister, yesterday, watched a not terribly interesting basketball game sitting alongside Mr Obama, having travelled on Airfoce 1, where they shared a dinner of "hotdogs".
I suspect the more apparent the lack of success in fixing the economy both leaders exhibit, the more spin and tricks, the more social manipulation we will see on both sides of the Atlantic.

Health Care, Gay Marriage, the continued pointless military action in Afganistan are all a distraction from the main issue that affects most Brits and Americans - IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!

:)) Love the cartoon; and the post caption!

As usual Fr. Ray, you have hit the nail on the head. I think the dinner they shared is exactly indicative of the character of both of these characters.

Well, we say all hat and no cattle. The only thing these two have a surfeit of is that which the bovines produce in spades. These two strange bedfellows deserve each other. March Madness, baby.

Without a moral society, moral laws and practices, the economy must inevitably fail too. The economy is ultimately dependent on the society, especially its families.

The President would have had his work cut trying to explain the rules of Basketball.

Sharing tips on how to turn a military defeat into a victory will take a bit longer.

Thank God our man will be gone long before Obama.

Yes and fixing the economy starts with scripture and Catholic Social Teaching, plus practical experience.

Start with Leviticus 25 (all of it!) then look at Rerum Novarum then Caritas in Veritate, then Vix Pervenit.

One then needs an understanding of the nuts and bolts of the subject so start off with a bit of busking or street trading, or take an allottment, then go to the French Physiocrats, followed by Ricardo who came from Brighton by the way.

Did you see the article on drudgereport as to how much the visit and hotdogs cost?http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/mar/13/ohio-governor-lobbies-obama-during-ncaa-game/?utm_source=RSS_Feed&utm_medium=RSS

Duh...as we say in Iowa--less talk and more action, please, but not with the stupid, politically correct nonsense of gay rights and whatever is not True.

"Thank God our man will be gone long before Obama." You're holding an election before Jan 2013?

I wonder if the meal of hot dogs included a good helping of baked beans or maybe krout. It would helped in producing the political tool of hot gas.

Father, don't publish this contribution from your Northern Correspondent if you don't want to, but the "all" expression is "All mouth and trousers", while "fur coat and no knickers" is all-less.

Either, or indeed both, might be appropriate to describe our glorious leader, but accuracy, always accuracy ...

May the President thinks he is FDR. That is what he served George VI and Queen Elizabeth when they visited.

Fr.,

Thank you for referring us to this excellent article by Bishop Schneider. He really epitomises the liturgical problems of the last 50 years.
I believe the Reform of the Reform of the Novus Ordo is under way and that it will grow and prevail.

For my own part, I would urge two things, above all else, on all priests.

1. Turn again towards Christ and stop being a barrier to the flow of prayer from the congregation to God.

2. Insist on the congregation receiving the Sacred Host by mouth, and kneeling if possible, and not self- administering with their un-anointed hands.

I'm very confused by your dictum in #1 -- the priest ALWAYS has Christ in front of him. Evidently you've found a priest in some church somewhere, who consecrates mass with the Eucharist behind him. Pray tell, where? It would make an interesting picture!

#2 -- how is it the person receives on their nasty unannointed tongue? Does the kneeling bit also apply to eastern Rite Catholics who have always stood 'aright and in awe?'

[Hint: your way ain't the only way to skin a cat.]

gemoftheocean,

1. Alright, loose terminology. How about, turn towards the expected second coming of Christ. Got it?
2. The practise of receiving by mouth started in the 4th century, was supported by Aquinas in the 13th century, and was confirmed by Paul VI in 1969. John Paul II referred to the handling of the Sacred Species (and implicitly the sacred vessels) in 1980 as “the privilege of the ordained”.
3. I understand that the Orthodox and Eastern Rite Churches also receive by mouth, but I am concerned here with the Western Catholic Rite.
4. By the way there is nothing nasty, anointed or otherwise, about the tongue, or the hands, or any other part of our God-given bodies.
