Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre

I was very moved by this video wich I found on Rorate.

It tells the story of the Patroness of Cuba, Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre who is the focus of the Holy Father's vist to Cuba.
Apart from the odd liturgical practices on the part of the clergy it wonderful to see and hear about the faith of ordinary Catholics.

Father

I like the video of Our Lady of Charity in El Cobre. I may ask the parishioners to do a May collection for the restoration of the church in El Cobre -as a good deed for May and the Month of Mary. I think donations can be sent through the Church in Need. Please correct me if I am wrong.

However, after seeing the other video of the night club and the mullarkey in there, I nearly spilled my cocco drink.

Goodness me!!

The story of the discovery of the image reminded me of something a Columban confrere of mine in Fiji once pointed out: in all the apparitions of our Blessed Mother that the Church recognises Mary appeared to poor people.

The old man saying that the church of the shrine was his 'home' reminded me of an encounter I had outside Westminster Cathedral, some years ago when I was doing a mission appeal there, with a most obnoxious young man who button-holed me and wanted all churches to be sold, etc, etc, and the money used for the poor. His accent was that of someone from a very comfortable background. I do pray for him occasionally. His zeal may well be channelled by God as was that of Saul/Paul.

The people in the video would be very much at home in the Philippines, and vice-versa.

Lovely video Father Ray: heartwarming to see so many Cuban Cathilic pilgrims of all ages united in their faith.I thought the music was pitched just right too.
@ Fr BT: such mullarkey can be found in parts of Brighton on any clement evening I fear, possibly not in establishments where one would find cocoa drinks :)

My dear Gigi

I am sure that you are correct.

However, I am too old to start drinking something else. Also, I am thinking about my blood pressure, bad back, knees shattered from kneeling and all the other failures.

If I started to shake around like that, my flock would think that I was having an epeleptic fit! And I would surely spill my cocoa.

Have a blessed Palm Sunday and Holy Week.
