Congratulations to Rita and Michael.
The first of this weekends weddings, we've got another two tomorrow and a reception into the Church on Sunday! Getting married seems to be fashionable this year, the most this year than since I came to the parish. I love celebrating sacraments, it is what being a priest is about!
...And another nice thing, I had an invitation this morning to Gerrard Hatton's diaconate ordination, one of the factors in Gerrard's call to the priesthood was the example of my best friend, his parish priest, who died over a decade ago.
It's the fecundity of grace, it gives meaning to priestly celibacy - does that make sense?

I should think being a conduit for the sacraments would be the best thing about being a priest. Granted anyone can baptize, and a couple actually by their mutal promise "do" the sacrament (under the auspices of mother church, of course) -- it needs a priest to do all the rest.
You're there for the best and most intimate part of a person's life, acting as persona Christi for them.
Sad to say, in too many parishes now one has to "die in office hours" to get last rites - and the real mark of a really good priest is one who will try and get there come hell or high water when that time comes.

Nice to see the bride remembered to put on her dress. So many seem, absent-mindedly, to get married in their petticoats.
She does look bridally radiant with her proud new husband. Best wishes to the couple for a long and happy marriage in faithfulness to the Church.
