Excommunicating A Call To Action?

A Call To Action dissent group meetings seem to have been arranged in vatious dioceses through England and Wales; what can a Bishop do?

Well, according to Mark Lambert who recently attended the Brentwood meeting, in the US Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz of the Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska issued, under certain conditions, an automatic interdict (which then escalated after one month to an automatic excommunication) on members of the organisation within his diocese.

On appeal to the Congregation for Bishops the then Prefect Cardinal Baptista Re wrote that: "The judgment of the Holy See is that the activities of ‘Call to Action’ in the course of these years are in contrast with the Catholic faith due to views and positions held which are unacceptable from a doctrinal and disciplinary standpoint.... Thus to be a member of this association or to support it is irreconcilable with a coherent living of the Catholic faith."

Do read Mark's thouhtful account and add his blog to your list

If there was a Vatican III tomorrow and it anathematsised women priests, gay marriage and the like it wouldn't make any difference. The Tablet and the NCR would just issue a rallying cry for Vatican IV. The only solution seems to be the biological solution and thankfully at long last this seems to be kicking in.

Also one has to wonder about the good will and ignorance here. If you have a degree or are a professor for heavens sake how is that you cannot go online or look at the catechism and find out the definition of things like magisterium or development of doctrine. It really isn't difficult. Either we've got some very thick professors out there or they are just plain dishonest.

It should be noted that Bp. Bruskewitz's newly installed successor, Bp. James D. Conley, has kept the excommunications in force.

Agreed. Some wondered why NCR went in for open revolt and why now. A commenter at The Curt Jester pegged it: for all the Progressive's noise about "diversity", they are actually the most Occidental-centric bunch there is. But American and European Catholics have been on the wane for decades. Meanwhile, in Africa and the Orient Catholicism is thriving and in general, unswervingly orthodox. So I think it is finally dawning on NCR that they need to unleash their wrath because they know the time is short.

"It is important to recognise dissent for what it is, and not to mistake it for a mature contribution to a balanced and wide-ranging debate"

Says it all, doesn't it?

I clicked on your link and just got a blank page so I have no idea what your link said.
I knew some time ago that Bishop Bruskewitz excommunicated several organizations. He included all Freemasons, Voice of the Faithful and several others. He did not mess about with dissent but called it for what it is.
