Secularists Complain about... Guess Who?

Secularists have been complaining following a speech at Georgetown:

[He] equated atheists to religious extremists and urged the deluded (i.e., faithful) to unite against us. Seeing this sort of bigotry from someone of [his] prominence is disturbing."

[He] never says outright in this address that atheists or atheist activists are just as bad as, say, Al Qaeda, but even giving him the benefit of the doubt, the very fact that he would place secularism and religiously motivated violence in the same context is astounding, offensive, and shows an incredible lack of depth of thinking--not to mention revealing a level of animosity toward nonbelievers on the part of [him] that I am surprised to find exists.

Who is it who has joined my poke a secularist with stick campaign?

Answer here

Surprised?

Laughing too hard to be surprised.

Keep it up, El Presidente - I'm sure there are some Christian democratic votes in it.....

I would have been surprised, but you forgot to blip out his name in one other place.

But I guess you shouldn't be TOO surprised. Even a blind groundhog finds an acorn once in a while, and a broken clock is right twice a day.

Here's a Catholic complaint about secularism:

http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/oct/09101606.html

"Catholics must learn to "exorcise" the so-called "spirit of Vatican II" to end the secularization that has "wreaked havoc" on the Church since the Council, says Bishop R. Walker Nickless of Sioux City, Iowa."

There's a link to his pastoral letter.

I'm reminded of the one-liner: "Sioux City - The Litigation Capital of the USA."

Reasoned words which serve as a warning to us all.

Unfortunately, he was so extreme as a parliamentarian and a Prime Minister that it is hard to take his words seriously.

He was extremely against the right of the unborn to live, extremely pro-Gay lobby, extremely fanatical in his pursuit of the Iraq war and extremely unreasonable when a million people marched against it.

Yes, surprised - and actually heartened by the hysterical reaction of the secularists.

As for Mr Blair, I have never been a supporter, and his hypocritical approach to abortion (against it but voting for it) continues to send me into a rage. But who knows what goes on in a man's soul except God.

I am old enough to remember Malcolm Muggeridge who started as an extreme cynic and ended up as a stalwart Roman Catholic and a vociferous supporter of the Faith - also to the great consternation of the sceptics.

Johnf, there is a difference of sorts between Malcolm Muggeridge and Tony Blair.

Mr Muggeridge was converted as a result of his encounter with Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, and he was converted to the fullness of the faith.

Mr Blair was converted to the cafeteria version of the faith as a result of his encounter with Mother Cherie of Lincoln's Inn.

Secularists are imposing on us all a Confessional State with its own values and beliefs(albiet secularist) and maintainig that in their state error has no rights. Christians of all kinds should in return fight for a pluralist State in which all views are tolerated. Such would seem to me to be the wise teaching of the Second Council of the Vatican on Religious Liberty.

Since a bigot is one who maintains a view against all the evidence such a label can be rightly affixed to militaant seculaists.
