Nuncio to the Conference

The Catholic Herald carries the full text of the Nuncio's address to the Bishops Conference, in which he urges them to be outspoken, to support the Ordinariate, to engage dialogue with Muslims and Jews to promote the family, it is all good stuff.

People ask me what I know of him. I find it difficult to say, he is a little more outspoken than his predecessors but he is a diplomat, it is only when he starts appointing Bishops to the vacant dioceses that we will really know. The rumours going the rounds are that no new bishops will be appointed until after August but perhaps his address is more directed to Episcopabili than the Episcopacy.

It is important to write to him to suggest good loyal priests who will make good loyal bishops, Nuncioes like to know about good priests.

Terry,
There are many, many better choices!

I would urge all readers who know of priests that they think would make good bishops to write to the nuncio with their suggestions.

Remember that there are a lot of qualities that would be desirable in a bishop. Here are some:

Fidelity to the Magisterium,
Holiness,
Firmness,
Charism,
High level of education eg STL,
Pleasent personality,
Energy,
Sense of mission,
Ability to communicate.

It is unlikely that any candidate will have all these qualities, but there must be many priests around with many of them.

Send your suggestions with some information about about them to:

Your illustrious speaker on Tuesday should be high up on any list.

if i write to the Nuncio,it would be to ask a simple question;WHY is it taking so long to appoint Bishops to the vacant see's in this country?? it is quite ridiculous!!! there are a few priests that spring to mind, not nessesarily monsignori,i would love to suggest my pp,just to relieve him of his duties in our parish,in the nicest possible way of course!!!

At first, I thought that "rachel" didn't have capital letters on her computer. But there are five there. Clearly, she simply doesn't know when to use them.

May I add to the list of Et Expecto?
The ability to manage clergy and employees, an understanding of legal, financial and management issues, a sense of responsibility and, perhaps hardest to plan for, luck.
I assume that a sense of reverence and appreciation of beauty are included in the requisite of holiness. Liturgical and artistic banality are burdens that we have had too much of.
It is, as stated, a lot to ask for.

The Nuncio is a Dominican Tertiary. Hopefully this reveals that he is motivated by truth.

When you ask for a good Bishop, the person to ask is the Holy Mother.

Saint Albert the Great was an idiot.

He escaped from the Seminary three times, and finally, the Holy Mother agreed she would give to him all the graces necessary for his Priesthood.

He was no longer an idiot; he became a great Priest and intellectual, much sought after for his opinion.

Thus the name Saint Albert the Great.

If you want a good Bishop, ask the Holy Mother.

If you wonder why it takes so long to appoint Bishops, it is because you haven't prayed enough for one.

I entrust this whole matter in the hands of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, “Mother of the Priest par excellence, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and through Him, of all priests in whom she forms her Son”.

@Rachel

In reply to your impatient query, Cormac Murphy-O'Connor is in the Congregation for Bishops, and his birthday is at the end of August. He was born in 1932.

As our lovely America brethren say - "do the math."

This very factor itself implies that we should be confident about the choices which may eventually be made.

In reply to jaray i really dont think personal attacks such as yours are warranted on this site, and as for josephus,is cardinal cormac the pope??? doesn't the Holy Father make the decisions and not the cardinal, however influential he may be.

Yes, there are 6 Dioceses at the moment- imminently at least.
THE MAJOR PROBLEM IS WHO WILL WANT THE JOB?
It will be hard, it will be painful, and it will take a lot of prayers and endurance.

Why?

Because our Faith has been dissolved so greatly by some of the Bishops - that we have to start building solid foundations of the true Faith - in our schools and families.

It will take time. We need to have Bishops who will lead the people back to Jesus Christ.
Pastoral Letters which inspire, are informative and give a spiritual growth are essential.

Choose younger Bishops, who have health, strength and have been Parish Priests for a number of years. Experience goes with accountability.

Choose Bishops who have a good understanding of Theology - having gained a Doctorate or a Licence. Nothing less should suffice.

Choose wisely.

our Bishop, who will be 70 in a few months time, has only been our Bishop for a few years,he has worked in the Diocese for over 40 yrs,had vast pastoral experience and knew all the priests before becoming our shepherd,we were all utterly thrilled when the announcement was made.He is a good,Holy and caring man but also understands the need to face up to the difficult times ahead.
