Caption?

A group of Prince's of the Church attending a Papal WYD event, according to Yahoo this was taken during the Papal address.
I can't see any of our English bishops amongst them.

Is not the 'yawning' prelate the Bishop of Leeds?

I don't think so.

Bishops reaction to Pope Benedict saying, "I would like to add that I desire the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite in every parish church, to the new generation can be exposed and benefit from this type of worship."

How about 'Collective Jetlag'?

Or, 'Oh no, the the dratted didgeridoo players again!'

Bishop at back: Oi - over here - I think we've been infiltrated by the Mafia.

Bishop in middle: Oh no - we've been rumbled.

"I wish my new ICEL translation was in place".

I'm pretty certain the yawning bishop is Arthur Roche of Leeds - and beside him (nodding off) is Bishop Brain of Salford. There was another photo of Bishop Brain on Fr Zs blog where he's wielding a camera (with Bishop Hollis behind him).

Tom, amusing but too barbed for publication.

"Who invited Cardinal Egan? He was boring enough in New York!"

An unintended consequence of gagging the priestly blogosphere was that life had now become a lot less fun.

"The little guy in white by the microphone - is that the Pope?"
"Don't know, but isn't that Rolf Harris with him?"

Bernardette,
Gagged?

yes. there had been some talk of it earlier in the week. See The Mulier Fortis.

Humorous license you understand, Fr. It hasn`t and won`t happen.

Pope Rumbles Mobsters

Acting on a text-message tip-off, police yesterday rounded up the whole Koala gang in a mid-service swoop. Alarm bells rang when sharp-eyed worshippers noticed that the body language among a group of unknown clerics seemed to be at odds with their impeccable episcopal attire...

Fr. Blake, in case Bernadette doesn't see your query - "to gag" or "gagging" means to make the person shut up. Often times if there is sensitive information given in a court case a judge will issue what is colloquially known as a "gag" order. In other words if X information / conversations etc. from the courtroom leak, the judge will come down on your rear end so hard it will make you wish you'd never been born.

With the bishops' attempt at a gag order, one wishes THEY'D never been born.....

My apologies - as my blog name suggests, I am not very attentive to the minutiae of posting - and after having had my password rejected three times, I just hit the nearest radio button that permitted me to post(open id?).
Perhaps the caption should come from T.S.Eliot's poem "Hippopotamus"
"..God moves in mysterious ways
The Church can sleep and feed at once".
(P.S. - I wonder would dear old T.S. be so rude about our Church if he could see what is going on in his own at the moment).

I saw this picture in yesterdays 'Metro' Newspaper - and to agree with 'christoph' I'm sure the yawing prelate is Bp Roach of Leeds...that's what caught my eye! And I thought he was one of the 'good guys'...! :)

It's definitely the Bishop of Leeds. Obviously he's bored of being Bishop of Leeds and is busy daydreaming - about Westminster, perhaps?

The Lord’s descent into the underworld

At Matins/the Office of Readings on Holy Saturday the Church gives us this 'ancient homily', I find it incredibly moving, it is abou...
