Not in my parish

Clare, our choir director sent me this, it is from a list of workshops for liturgical musicians:

PLAY IN THE MYSTERY: DRUM AND CHANT Philip Roderick. Improvise with the divine in the mystery of creation; rekindle the body and spirit through percussion and song. Bring cardboard boxes, rattles, shakers, yourselves into this simple but profound soundspace. Philip will facilitate improvisational chant and play the cardboard box, the djembe and the extraordinary and ambient Hang Drum. Philip Roderick is an Anglican priest, founder-Director of The Quiet Garden Movement and leader of Contemplative Fire - a 'fresh expression of Church'. http://www.contemplativefire.org/

It is actually happening at a Catholic venue, but nothing on chant, strangely.

He looks like he is building a time machine. Not a match for the St Mary Magdalen Church Choir!

Looks to me more like a collection of stuff to go in the recycling box.

I was struck by an apparant contradiction - all that drumming and yet his group is called the quiet garden!

I guess the Quiet Garden isn't so quiet once Reverend gets busy on the extraordinary and ambient Hang Drum.

Check out the website, very funny. Especially the pic of "We re-discover how to walk slowly", like they're all looking for their keys.

Thank God for Clare and her real choir.
