The Latin Mass Society of England and Wales (LMS) is organising a residential training conference for priests wishing to learn the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite (Traditional Latin Mass) at Ushaw College, Durham, one of England’s most prestigious seminaries.
The conference will run from Monday 12 April to Friday 16 April 2010 (i.e. Low Week) and will feature Traditional liturgies in Ushaw’s magnificent neo-Gothic St Cuthbert’s Chapel together with a Gregorian Chant schola and polyphonic choir.
Expert tuition in the celebration of Mass in the Usus Antiquior will be provided on a small group basis. There will be tuition in Low Mass, Missa Cantata and Missa Solemnis and there will be streams for beginners and more advanced students. There will be a keynote lecture and 1962 Missals and altar cards will be available.
There will be opening and closing High Masses, daily Mass and Devotions, and Rosary. There will also be a closing Conference dinner with guest speaker.
The subsidised fee to participants is only £115.00 which includes all accommodation, meals and training materials. There are limited places and priests are asked to register as soon as possible.

Paul Waddington said, “This is the second time the LMS has organised such a training conference at Ushaw College and we are delighted to be going back. "one of England's most prestigious seminaries"
Is there a pecking order or league table as with universities?
Ushaw College could be considered the most prestigious seminary in England, in the sense that it has the grandest and most extensive buildings, including the the magnificent St Cuthbert's Chapel. At one time catered for 400 seminarians, which made it far bigger than any other seminery.
It also had a junior seminary attached to it which catered for 150 boys. The junior seminery closed in the 1960s, when the boys were transferred to Upholland. At the same time, the seminarians from Upholland were transferred to Ushaw.

What is it about some people that they must look for something to make petty comments. Why can't (some) people rejoice that the LMS, in particular Paul Waddington, is spending hours, weeks, months, of their time (unpaid) in order to put on a training course for priests that will benefit both the priests and laity. This is another great step forward in the restoration of the traditional liturgy and all some people can do is look for faults. These are the sort of people who go to see the Mona Lisa in the Louvre and then tell everyone that they spotted a small hairline crack in the frame. Why take issue with some innocuous wording in a press release when the message itself is what REALLY matters. I do find it extremely exasperating.
Discreet Observer: I was being facetious. Go and spray yourself with some WD40 and loosen up a bit.
shame the current Ushaw seminarians aren't allowed to be involved as part of their formataion. I asked some of the current staff who are less than happy for the semenarians to be involved in any way. Very Sad
