Where God Weeps




This is a short film by Aid to the Church in Need about the plight of our Christian brothers and sisters in Iraq.

Our Lord said this:

"Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay in that house until you leave. As you enter the home, give it your greeting. If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town." (Matthew 10:5, 7-16)

I submit that this instruction counsels the Christians of Iraq to leave.

I draw the lesson from the fact that my maternal grandmother's place of birth in Poland was a Jewish shtetl before the war, and half the population were Jews. In June 1941 the SS set about them and left no survivors.

I agree with Father Roderick that we ought to be more assertive in defence of our persecuted brothers and sisters.

Our Bishops could begin by asserting that Islam is a false and blasphemous religion, and by serving notice on Muslim leaders that either they are with us, or they are with the terrorists.

And that they are with the terrorists if they fail to brand as apostates those who take God as a witness that His faithful must fight and slay unbelievers until they are subdued and all worship is for Allah.

And let's be a little more cordial toward the Israelis and a little less accommodating toward our enemies and theirs.

Not principally because they're the only non-Muslims in the Middle East with heavy weapons, but more to the point they are our elder brethren in the faith.

On an unrelated note, the Bishop of East Anglia, Bishop Michael Evans is dying of prostate cancer and only has a few weeks left to live.
A letter from him was read out after Mass today throughout the Diocese.

I was wondering whether, in your charity, you could ask your blog readers to pray for him.
