The Lord’s descent into the underworld

Dreadful, dreadful music. What were they thinking????????
I made it for a youth group, it is a country song, which is familiar to them, and the words are corresponding to the messages.
I get that not everyone likes this sort of things, it was never intended to be seen by hoards of people. The 5 kids in the youth group liked it, and it has helped them... I am satisfied with that.
But I like it very much -clever idea, good images - just I'm a Mozart and Bach man.
Joseph I put it up because I thought it was worth seeing by more people - well done!
No, not terribly keen on the music (I watched it with the volume turned down the second time), but what stunning imagery; some very subtle, powerful as a whole. Great - thanks.
Joe
Terrific!
It would not have anywhere near the impact without the music. It's for the young for goodness sake.
Thank you Fr for putting this up, and to Joseph for creating it - it's wonderful.
Anne-Marie,
I was young once
-I think.
I think it is terrific, I rather like other things on the blog too.
The fact that we posted on the Juv blog is not indication that we like the music!
The video was very good though.
Brilliant - I had linked to it on Facebook in the hope that my lapsed and heathen friends and relatives might give it a glance too...
Superb.
Music a bit loud for me, but there's always the option to turn it down a bit!
Stunning images, punchy messages - well done Joseph!
I realize my first comment came of sounding: "annoyed" and I am not annoyed that people dont like the music.
In fact, I am glad some dont... if EVERYONE loved the music, they might miss the images which are important.
I like all sorts of music. I am a fan of plain chant at Mass, Polyphony at High Feasts. Except I live in a place where we have electric piano, the same Mass setting, and Haugen-Hass songs non stop.
I am glad people like it, I am even glad the music if off putting to some :) It means it has a niche. It honestly helped me out of a funk I was in and I think the up-beat crazy country music helped that.
I am honored that Fr. Blake put it on his blog... I truly am.
I really wish a group like Juventutem existed where I live and was around when I was young! They are doing amazing things!
I've watched this video before and was really moved by it. Really powerful images. I didn't mind the music either :D
Excellent but pity about the music. Good sequence of images.
JosephK - you might try this. I think it would work even better.
Start as you do, then fade it out and bring in Tantum Ergo in Gregorian chant, then Tu es Petrus by Palestrina, finish with the Benedictus from Durufle's Requiem.
I am not so sure that loud clashy music is what the young actually like or are looking for.

Amen. When it comes to youth, it's difficult to put something together that isn't perceived as pandering. The medium is the message, and I think in this case music and images are knocking heads with the trivializing effect of the popular music dominating the field.

I agree too... except I still made this video... and I don't know why I used the music that I did. I know I could have made it with more Sacred and Liturgical music... but I wanted more of an 'Anthem' type song...
I am a fan of traditional liturgy, traditional music, I think that LifeTeen and "Teen Masses" aren't what teens really want because we try and make relevant the Sacred... through secular means and that doesnt work and teens dont want that... but...I still made this video this way. It really does baffle me, and I dont know if that makes sense.
I dont think that teens are looking for loud clashy music, and honestly I find it odd being on this side of the "fence" on this issue. I made the video, people liked it, it was meant to be exactly what it is... and yet some people want it to be something else. I dont know how to feel about it, and at times I have even thought of taking it down.
It really is a spiritual battle for me...
Joseph, try it with a alternative sound track - keep the start as it is and then move towards serenity with music that reinforces the images.
Joseph K:
"Physiocrat" et al are quick to come up with suggestions/criticisms. Let them do better if they think they can. Stick to your guns. I think your piece is great. Don't you dare take it down.
Joseph K, you have nothing to apologise for. Thank you for this. I will disseminate it. The music has life to it and so does the video. God bless you.
totally agree father, perhaps something more slower and sedate!!!
Joseph, don't listen to the grouches. The video is fine as it is. The music is not to my taste but hey, I like Little Wayne and Sonnyboy Williams. You can't please everybody.
The pictures are great and the music is well - in your face - but hey, why not? At least it's not Shine, Jesus Shine.
