My birthday is coming up and here are a few things I would be quite pleased to have.
Yes you are right, I am not quite serious but there is a sale coming up in Paris of works from the collection the Marquet de Vasselot, some are breathtakingly beautiful, with astronomical estimates.

I see that you have excellent and expensive tastes Father. The lovely figure of Our Lady and the Child Jesus is estimated at Euros 1,000,000! Mind you I have a plaster statue which I think is rather lovely, the same subject, but unfortunately the hands of the Child Jesus were broken off before I bought it - from an antique centre for about £20.00, but I wouldn't swap it!! As an afterthought you wouldn't know of any good repairers for my little statue, I would rather like to replace the hands. Thanks.
Second-best birthday present would be a day trip to Paris to look at them!
I must show my ignorance. What is the second object (underneath the chest)?
Anita, It is a ciborium.
Expensive but excellent tastes indeed - a birthday list administered by Christies?? The tabernacle chest is gorgeous, my favourite.
@umblepie - I have a small gold-painted box with what I've always assumed was a picture of St Mary Magdalene on the lid - it cost £2.50 about ten years ago from a charity shop in London I think. It has a pride of place on my shelves in my front room, even though my sister tries to remove it from sight when she visits! "Value" has little if anything to do with pedigree or price. Is your statue plaster or resin? If plaster, a repair might be difficult.
No, Father, what you really need is the 'Elvis Presley® '68 Comeback Special' Cuckoo Clock. ("Elvis appears and sings a legendary hit each hour") A snip at £149.95.
