Thank God for politicians such as Anne Widdecombe, Ian Duncan Smith, and Frank Field all of whom have clean records. In addition to the knaves, the Telegraph also publishes an occasionasl list of the virtuous. They include Catholics, Anglicans, and Secularists.
I think he is paid almost £80k. I nearly fell of my chair when I realised it was that much, and rent free accommodation in London too. I think I will send any future donation directly to Cardinal Cordes at Cor Unum, rather than pay this fellow's inflated salary.
Hmm. Yet again the vile stench of corruption assails the nostrils.
More worrying is:
"Mr Goggins sat on the board of Cafod until June 2003 and was Charities Minister in 2005-06, when the size of Cafod’s government grant rose by nearly a third to £5.7 million. It dropped by a fifth the following year when Mr Goggins moved to the Northern Ireland Office but he said yesterday that he had no role in the funding of Cafod, which dealt primarily with the Department for International Development." The millions in government grants might account for the ambiguity of cafod's stance re condoms and AIDS prevention.
Time they came clean on this and time they were thoroughly investigated by the Pontifical Council Cor Unum.
That does it! - I was in two minds about my Cafod dd all along as I didn't want the recipients to lose out because of Cafod's ambivalence re condoms - I've cancelled it now - it'll go to the Church in Need instead (hope they're not fiddling!)
It never ceases to amaze me that Catholics are gullible enough to give money to the, somewhat oxymoronically named, CAFOD.
Give to Aid to the Church in Need, or the Good Counsel Network instead - at least you can be sure it will be used for wholly Catholic purposes.
