I was sent this picture of Archbishop Nichols celebrating a Requiem Mass for Cardinal Hume on the 10th anniversary of his death. I am glad that he continues to use the High Altar.
I understand that sdome thought is being given to moving the low wall behind the altar a little further back to give a little more space, a much cheaper and more practical option than moving the high altar forward.
It is good to see the Archbishop using purple vestments and a normal size priests host. This is picture of the per ipsum, I am glad to see the Archbishop is holding the host above the chalice, which isn't a technically correct interpretation of the rubrics, though it is "iconic".

Like you, I hope the the high altar is retained for regular use. I've just read a post on another blog slamming the notion of "Reform of the Reform". Well, here's the evidence that it's working, little by little.
Father, I was in London recently with the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, one day I popped into Westminster Cathedral and noticed that the the horrible forward facing altar has been removed completely. And by the looks of things there is no intention of putting it back on the sanctuary!
Thanks be to God!
A question for you Father,
The six candlesticks and the crucifix are placed on a ledge behind the altar. I believe that this ledge is is part of the steps leadong to the choir area.
Should not at least two of the candles actually be on the altar?
Purple is excellent - next stop Black?
Is the host supposed to be next to the chalice? Is there a particular reason for that?
Black vestments and unbleached candles would have been better, but it is glorious news that that hideous box has gone for good.
Great to hear!
