The Catholic Herald runs the back story to this little video by the Cardinal George, the Archbishop of Chicago, apparently it follows a meeting with President Obama.
"Why shouldn't our government and our legal system permit conscientious objection to a morally bad action, the killing of babies in their mother's womb? People understand what really happens in an abortion and in related procedures - a living member of the human family is killed - and no one should be forced by the government to act as though he or she were blind to this reality."

These times are very dark. Who could have guess 40 years ago that today we would have to beg to be allowed not to murder innocent children.
Well done Cardinal George. Jesus have mercy.
Look wider than this. It is part of a bigger moral collapse of which the debauchment of the currency is another element. This is the Weimar Republic syndrome and it will have a similar ending.
The US has polarised into a conservative and narrow "right" and an amoral "left", the latter having taken up mindless attitudes of political correctness. Both sides of this divide are amoral. The country will come apart.
Britain is in similar danger. Perhaps surprisingly, the monarchy may prove to save the country from the abyss in front of us. Hopefully, the Queen will last long enough to be succeeded by her grandson instead of dotty Charles.
This opens the door to compelling doctors to kill the old, the incurable, the insane, the otherwise unproductive, the unwanted ...
At last the American episcopate has shaken off the malevolent ghost of Drinan, but is it too little too late?
