Son of our diocese

I discovered this on Fr John Boyle's blog, The Reverend Matthew Goddard is the son of one of the priests of our diocese, Fr David Goddard, a former Anglican, now Catholic priest, he was odained a bout 15 years ago, he and his wife Susan run the shrine of of Our Lady of Consolation at West Grinstead and live in the amazing house next door, with its priest holes and penal chapel.
What I find fascinating is how attractive religious communities that celebrate the Old Rite are to young people.

Roman Catholic Vocations posts this photo of the FSSP (Priestly Fraternity of St Peter) as his vocations photo of the day.
In the current issue of Mass of Ages, the official journal of the
Latin Mass Society, Rev. Matthew Goddard FSSP - a native of these shores - writes about his ordination to the subdiaconate by Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz of Nebraska and about the ministry of the subdeacon. He tells us that there are three British seminarians currently studying at the FSSP's American seminary. "God willing, I am to be ordained a Deacon next spring and will finish my studies at Christmas 2008. Another Englishman is about to enter the fourth year, and a Scotsman will be entering the fifth year. Please pray for us that God might shower us with the graces to become good and holy priest."
Keep Matthew in your prayers, and his family too.

I knew Fr David when he was an Anglican curate at Holy Spirit, Southsea. His parish priest there was an excellent pastor and teacher who helped prepare many new priests for parish ministry, several of whom have been received into the Church and are now priests.

I'm glad that we now have so many priests who started their ministry within the orthodox, Anglo-Catholic wing of the Anglican Church. May they help to counter many liberal abuses that have crept into the Church over the last few decades.

Do you think Matthew Goddard will be allowed to work in England? So far very few members of FSSP are to be found here.
