I don't preach like this but...

Fr Richards here was speaking at a men's conference. I have his Confession and Mass DVDs and they are great. Perhaps for English and Australians he seems a bit over the top but his love for Jesus the Mass and his priesthood is very evident and that excuses everything in my book.

The Mary Foundation has his Confession and Mass on a CD.

Very good. He'd make a good conference giver to young person.

Appalling. Lessons on communication skills needed here (apart from a better theological approach). This may appeal to an echelon of the American psyche but it is one of a lower order; can you imagine our Blessed Lord preaching in this fashion? Of course not and it is insulting and patronising to young peole to believe that they would appreciate this style.

Ches,
This is his alter-ego.

I agree he'd go down a storm with a young audience. However, if this tailored for an audience of men, then fair enough. He's telling it like it is in very basic terms and I can't fault him on his take on the Commandments. Mortal sin is mortal sin. No messing there.
I'd guess from what he said that this is a priest who has spent most of his ministry among men, young and old, and his approach is bound to be more muscular.
He's a big occasion preacher in the mould of Billy Graham. And, actually, I can imagine Christ going full pelt when there were huge crowds. I doubt that you'd get it quite this way in a parish Mass. But, then, again.

My father told me about a priest in the 1930s at the Jesuit church in Farm Street. Every Sunday he railed about the wickedness of the congregation and gave them what for. Yes, he shouted at them. No falling congregations there. The church was packed to the doors every single week and people got there early in order to get a seat.

I think teenage boys would appreciate his approach. Not sure about grown men though.

Love the "Father, I try" diatribe. Very funny.

Do aborted children go to heaven as a matter of course?

Ma, That seems to be current opinion but was not always so.

I thought that was very good, nobodys eyes glazing over and he probably has a long queue for Confession.

This is the kind of modernisation we need if we are to survive the Secularisation and the oncoming Depression.

The Lord’s descent into the underworld

At Matins/the Office of Readings on Holy Saturday the Church gives us this 'ancient homily', I find it incredibly moving, it is abou...
