Is it true to say that Paolo Massimo was brought back to life so that he could die in a state of grace? Bacci's account would seem to suggest otherwise, even though it doesn't positively exclude the possibility.
As in all of the older buildings in Rome, the steps are marble and very worn and extremely smooth. Even with very grippy shoes one might have a great deal of trepidation going down them, especially knowing that marble is extremely hard on one's head. All the goings on at the palace are on the fourth floor and there is only the usual tiny Italian style lift. And of course, one would never dream of attending at the Palazzo Massimo on The Day, in any shoes that could be described as "grippy".
