Cardinal Stricklers Funeral

Pope Benedict XVI celebrates the funeral service for Austrian Cardinal Alfons Maria Stickler, at the Vatican, Friday Dec. 14, 2007. The former archivist and librarian at the Vatican, died Wednesday Dec. 12. He was 97. Pray for soul. I am grateful to the dear Cardinal for his book on celibacy, quite brilliant.
The Altar of the Chair is the main place for Papal Liturgies in St Peters, it really does look so dull, doesn't it?

why has that deacon on left at back got his hands in the Orans postion? Also what adout a frontal for the altar and what happened to the six funeral candles that would make a diffrence? lovely to see the big six and Cruifix.

I noticed the deacon too. In Italy, I have notice that contrary to the GIRM, they do it at the Pater.

Fr. Ray,

To me, that altar looks like a piece of patio furniture. It would look more at home outdoors next to a couple of folding chairs and a barbecue.

I wonder if Pope Benedict feels the same way?

Yeah, it's gross.
Looks like something the Aztecs would have sacrificed virgins on.

Beautiful coffin, though, to sort of offset it.

It's not even good patio furniture. What are you going to do on it? Sacrifice potato salad? It is..."unfortunate."

I agree, I don't like it and it would be nice if it would be changed. I don't think it looks like a patio furniture...but nor I think it looks like an altar. It's simply looks like some kind of ugly modern "tree of life" art piece.
