This really is a beautiful film and helps us to understand the 'tormenta' which Pope Paul underwent. How moving to see him with his confessor and his anguish at the Council. He always seemed such a remote figure at the time - we knew so little about him.

I was disappointed to discover that the film is not a cinema film but one made for Italian television. Now it has reached the period which many of us can remember I do await the rest of it with impatience. Does anyone know whether it is possible to watch all of it online anywhere?

But it's an unfair representation of Mons. Lefebvre, even given artistic licence! Portraying him as an hysterical, temperamental person is a mistake, in my view. Remember, he signed the conciliar documents; his main objection was the introduction of the New Mass, subsequent to the Council itself.
