For the Vatican, King Abdullah Matters More than 138 Muslim Scholars

There is a very worthwhile article by Sandro Magister which quotes the king as saying,

"I have had an idea that has obsessed me for two years. The world is suffering, and this crisis has caused an imbalance in religion, in ethics, and in all of humanity. [...] We have lost faith in religion and respect for humanity. The disintegration of the family and the widespread atheism in the world are frightening phenomena that all of the religions must take into account and overcome. [...] For this reason, I have thought of inviting religious authorities to express their views of what is happening in the world, and, God willing, we will begin to organize meetings to with our brothers who belong to the monotheistic religions, among representatives of believers in the Qur'an, the Gospel, and the Bible."

Syncretism pure & simple: accordingly, only learning by doing something together creates the bond of fraternal community.
In this community, social consciousness & moral response are expected to develop, leading to problem solving & world making.

Faith then, in this context, is reduced to nothing else than a socio-political, quasi religious change agent to make the world a humanist utopia. This is something that a Catholic should shy away from. Angelo

Syncretism pure & simple: accordingly, only by doing something together creates the bond of fraternal community. Members need only be introduced to a wider community to experience the ties they have with others.
In this setting, consciousness & moral response must develop into problem solving & world making.
Consequently, faith is reduced to
nothing else than a socio-political, quasi religious change agent to make the world a humanist utopia. It's the sort of thing that a Catholic should shy away from.
